Premiere • TD: "Round Trips"

Produced by Phoelix Written by TD A new sound. Keeping music alive...

As men, we've all been in the position of having to figure out the next move with a woman. Whether you catch eyes at the bar, strike up a conversation at a party only to be separated or whatever the case may be, the time comes and a decision has to be made, sometimes it's made for us. That's the theme at least in this new one from newcomer TD who's initial just happen to perfectly complement the site. "Round Trips" is the first offering on his Soundcloud and a welcome, down-tempo storytelling effort that plays on tropes made popular like Drake and Bryson Tiller while maintaining it's own unique aesthetic. Out here it serves well to jump on things early and here we get a dope initial look at an artist I've been told we'll be hearing plenty more from throughout the summer months and the rest of 2016 alike. Per usual, we caught up with TD to get a little further insight on the single. Check that out below, the single up above and keep it tuned in for plenty more coming soon.

TheseDays • What is the story behind this single?

TD • Well it all started when I took took a trip to Toronto with my guys who were hosting a function at Soho House during NBA All-Star weekend. I had just went my separate ways with a female I was talking to back at home so I was looking forward to the trip. We went straight to Soho when we touched down in the Six and I saw a beautiful woman. She walked up to me and asked where I was from and what I was doing in Toronto. Told her I was from Chicago and that I was in town to do a show wit my boys. Soon after that I pulled my iPhone out and wrote the first verse. I didn’t finish writing the track until I came back home and linked with my producer (Phoelix) to produce the beat with me. I called him at 1 a.m thirsty to cook up something and so was he so I pulled up on him right then and we worked on it out of my car.  Originally I wanted to add a sample but the internet connection was whack so we made the beat-- It was so cold to me I felt it didn’t even need a sample. The first time we ran it through I sang “Tryna ball like D Rose with my ni**as” and it was just hella catchy to me so I used that as the foundation for the hook. Then as i got to writing the song, I just thought about different encounters I’ve had with some women in different cities where I was with the guys.  I always put my guys first because ultimately they come first as well as the money, so when it comes to females--we can kick it but just know not for long because I’m on a mission with the guys trying get it.

But that kinda changed for me when I went to Miami and saw the most beautiful woman on the rooftop of the Congress Hotel. But me and my guys were leaving as her and her girls were arriving. I could tell by the way she was looking at me that she wanted me to speak to her so I had to get her number. After being home for a few weeks talking and vibin with her, I just had to take a quick trip back to Miami to see her, then you know how the rest of the songs go..

TheseDays • How is it indicative of where you're at personally?

TD • Well as I'm getting older and really finding my lane, I’m beginning to really lock in and surround myself with people who are just as motivated and driven as I am in every aspect. My homies are my homies for a reason and they come second after family. Once I get to the point where I can take care of my families and few friends I’m going to do that. Some women come and go so you have to know who you can really give that time and effort to. So, until I find that we can kick it but really I’m cooling trying ball like D Rose with my family.

TheseDays • How do you want your music to be received?

TD • I want people to hear my music and think of 90’s R&B. I want people to say man, TD’s saving music. I want received as a new smooth sound, something unexpected and refreshing. And it's not just for the ladies, the fellas can rock with it too.

TheseDays • What can we expect from you moving forward?

TD • People can expect a lot from me, and I'm going to give it to them soon.  Currently I'm working on some singles with Phoelix, which will debut in July post my listening party.  Following that party I will be in the studio non-stop working on my complete debut project.
