RoundUp • New Releases From Danny Arcane, Vee Miyagi, DJ Caleeb & More

There's a lot of music happening in the city these days and our team is here to help you sort through it all the best we can. Occasionally, we find the need to pull a series of recent releases together into a round up that serves the act like a sort of digest for what's happening around Chicago's bountiful artistic outlets. This time around we have some new videos and music from the likes of Vee Miyagi, Danny Arcane, DJ Caleeb and more.

Danny Arcane • "Heart Broke"

Sometimes a start of a harsh breakup can really feel like open heart surgery. Danny Arcane revisits this trauma in his latest visual for Heart Broke. It’s a pretty creative video compiled of old television clips, animation, and stock footage, wrapped around the story of a young man facing his demons. Produced by Lou Lofton and Arcane himself, the overall approach to his music can best be described as avante garde, but still can’t really classify the rapper in any one particular sub-genre.

DJ Caleeb • "Tonight (Slow It Down)"

The 2010’s have been an age of growth for rap as a genre itself. Many producers will try their hardest to mash together two unorthodox genres in hopes of the next big thing to no avail. But DJ Caleeb might be on to something with his heavily house influenced instrumentals. While House and Rap isn’t a new relationship, they do happen to be a genre blend that’s under-appreciated and under-utilized. But maybe that’s for the best or else we wouldn’t be able to find these gleaming gems such as DJ Caleeb.

Frank Leone • "Loser"

Returning from his self-described “time-travel” hiatus, Frank Leone has shared the single “Loser,” his first release of 2016. The jazzy record delves into a strained relationship that’s headed towards disaster from the perspective of a subject who’s increasingly becoming detached to his lover - yet is not ready to leave due to an underlying fear of uncertainty. “Loser” is driven by the whirlwind of emotions an unhealthy relationship can have and Frank uses his sharp songwriting skills to pave the way for a nostalgic trip through love’s highs and lows. “Loser” succeeds in creating a connection with the listener thanks to the beautiful arrangement Frank himself produced with help of his friends; Grant Wu, Madeline Whitesell, and trumpeter Gamalinda, as they all come together for the perfect song to blast during a rainy summer day.

G-Eazy (Ft. Jeremih) • "Saw It Coming"

Oakland, California's G-Eazy, who's also known as "Young Gerald”, has clearly proven he knows what he’s doing, and without a doubt knows who to linkup with for an awesome R&B feature. We're of course talking about Chicago’s very own R&B phenom, Jeremiah. Not to undermine the bars in this song, this jam definitely calls for a party where no one needs to know the lyrics because the beat is just that groovy! G-Eazy comes prepared with sharp bars, incorporating a very live atmospheric feel that can keep a crowd going. As far as our own Jeremih goes, I wouldn’t miss him homecoming performance next month during Pitchfork Music Festival. After that, the kids off to Germany, Belgium, Netherlands etc. Yeah, he’s making plays.

Myles August • "1995"

Young chicago artist Myles August hits us once again with an old-school chill vibe. Percussion and wavy melodies carry this track from beginning to end. Clearly we can hear that he has got plenty on his chest that the world needs to hear. Oh yeah, wait a minute... lets not overlook the production done by Mr. August himself. What a job well done, keeping it super lively and smooth! Very bluntly soft spoken with a tad of R&B in his style, he keeps the streets surprised every time he drops a new track.

Vee Miyagi (Ft. ADot) • "Win Win Win"

Do you feel like you’re drowning in obligations and problems with no room to breathe? Is a brick wall in the way of your goals? Don’t worry, Vee Miyagi got you covered. Vee Miyagi is destined to avoid the L’s all summer with his new track "WIN WIN WIN". This is the first in a twelve-week summer series he’s concocted. The overall positive vibes are the perfect way to start off anyone’s summer goals.

ICEFACE (Ft. Bando Brando) • "From ICEFACE With Love"

While the wait for his proper debut project ICE continues, ICEFACE shares a new one off of the extended cut of his Drip God Sosa mixtape. In efforts to woo a women whom the song is centered around, the track sees the Westside staple singing for the first time in a while. In fact, it's been a pretty rare occurrence all together since first debuting it on "I Think I Love Her" - a song featured on The O'My's & Donnie Trumpet's Family Cookout EP. Joining ICE on the track is Bando Brando who assists with the wave, drip & all that. Enjoy.
