Max Wonders • "Malibu Beach Trip"
Max Wonders takes a bizarro trip to the ocean on "Malibu Beach Trip", a surfing safari that aesthetically has nothing to do with, sun, waves, or anything bright at all, for that matter. And yes, if you're familiar with Max Wonders you should already know it's a killer track. If his project from last summer You Will Never Find (one of our 2015 Best Of picks) explored the night time as an optimist playground, "Malibu" explores the daytime with the the sun at its most blinding, heat at its most oppressive, fakers out and about at their most phony. The track is produced by Tahmi, a past collaborator who has been behind some of Max Wonder's bassier, albeit more upbeat tracks. While his Hues To Blame project is on track for release soon (as in, this Summer), "Malibu Beach Trip" will not be featured on the project. Which begs the question, which direction will Max Wonders be taking the project? What we do know, "Malibu Beach Trip" is not your Grandparent's surf-rock. Bring your shades, and happy thoughts.
