Akenya. • "Disappear"

A powerful voice has been quietly gaining steam from the city's bountiful coffers and once again the beautiful vocal stylings of Chicago's own Akenya manifested itself once again in the new video for her single "Disappear" which originally debuted here on TheseDays and here gets a simple yet powerful visual accompaniment that dropped just before the weekend.

Akenya has been systematically stepping out for some time. A regular jaw-dropper on stages across the city, here we get a more carefully-produced look at the artist set against a sort of film-noir that dares to remind us of the frigid winter months mid-July with effective transitions that come packaged by director Todd Burr. Handling everything from the production to the lyrical content, Akenya. is a furtherance of the type of self-sufficient, all-encompassing artist this scene has become known for. Talking to Fader, who debuted the video, Akenya. said: "The chorus to 'Disappear' came to me as I was waking from a dream one day," Akenya. I think the song has a surreal quality to it. The spacious shots of Chicago and its many 'El' stations kind of create an urban Alice in Wonderland effect."

Keep an eye out for Akenya.'s Moon In The 4th due out later this year.
