Cassius Tae • "Can't Get Close"
Directed by Ja-Wan The Director // Words by Allen Hotchkiss
Newcomer Cassius Tae really came on big in 2015 with the release of New Beginnings, a seriously truthful mix of soul tracks with lyrically in-depth stories about growing up in Chicago. This week we got a video for his most recent release “Can’t Get Close” and it needs to be seen. Working with Reinvented Picture$, Tae makes you feel like you’re just riding along while he lays his soul on the line with his friends.
With Tae’s usual level of cleverness and approachability, “Cant Get Close” shows us how he balances growing up in a dangerous cash-ruled world while still developing as a rapper. Here we see him sing and effortlessly deliver raw verses over a beautiful beat. Lacking a true chorus or any catchy hook, this track still keeps your attention for its entirety because of the sincerity in which Cassius Tae delivers his vocals. “Cant Get Close” is a song that can bring people together in communities where love is needed most.
