Round Up • New Releases From Beach Jesus, Cae Jones, SamiiBeatz & More
Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.
Beach Jesus • "Cosmic Walker"
Featuring artwork from Chris Orta, back again are the aquatic lord Beach Jesus with “Cosmic Walker,” a rough demo featuring one take verses from Chandler and Jessiath. Currently known as Chandy and Jommis, the two lyricists find themselves in a lucid medium venting to the expressive tunes of 1833’s donshining and fellow Beach Jesus affiliate Jaro. If you’ve ever been in the studio during a Beach Jesus session then you know how deep the party runs in their DNA. Seeing as Jommis and Chandy are both natural inhabitants of the stage it makes sense the mix embodies the energy of a live show. Releasing tracks sparingly this year make sure to check out the next helping of Beach Jesus.
Cae Jones • "garden"
Cae Jones’ new track “garden” sneaks into our playlists by way of some familiar faces. The new song engineered at Glass Tree Studios finds Jaro for production as Cae Jones dismantles all doubt to his proficiency as a rapper. Spun with a variety of quick winded elocutions, the feathery keys keep a consistent current for Jones to float upon. He’s in for the long haul folks. Like a lot of expressionists creating in Chicago, Cae Jones is no stranger to versatility. You’ll find all the evidence in his tracklist on SoundCloud.
Prov • "427 B-Day Mix"
Happy Birthday Prov! From Chicago producer and DJ Prov, we have an extremely bumping house mix that is a guarantee to get you dancing. One of the best mixes you'll hear in a minute, vivid, colorful and grooving with absurdly addictive energy. Take a listen and get moving.
SamiiBeatz • "Why You Always Lyin'", "I Know Where The Night Goes" & "Now You Want to Know Me"
His first appearance after a long stay in India SamiiBeatz releases three new songs. Along with “Why You Always Lyin’” featuring 3ABM’s Young Wolf, we get “I Know Where The Night Goes” and “Now You Want to Know Me”. All produced by Samii, the new tracks flaunt big drums, trippy synthesizers, and unique genre fusions. Expect to see more from Samii this year, word is he’s planning to shoot a video real soon, as for what song he plans to shoot you’ll just have to wait and see. Until then enjoy the rest of these new songs.
TLNTD (Ft. Jdy Dff, DinnerWithJohn, BA, & Candace Price) • “365”
"I want this song to motivate you to believe because you never know where your road ends,” said TLNTD, when he dropped his most recent release which features his friend and the recently deceased DinnerWithJohn, AKA John Walt. It’s a meaningful comment along with the drop of the energetic and thoughtful song called “365,” which also features Chicagoans Jdy Dff, BA, and Candace Price. As predicted, Walt’s musical journey was nowhere near to ending as early as his life did and I would imagine that tracks like this will continue to surface.
