Slow Pulp • "Steel Birds"
On November first, Slow Pulp released their new single, “Steel Birds.” The four-piece band recently migrated from Madison, WI to their new home base of Chicago. Now Slow Pulp is making new friends in the city of Big Shoulders.
There is something at once nostalgic and futuristic in Slow Pulp’s self-proclaimed style of Dream Punk. “Steel Birds” is a down-tempo, lackadaisical ballad featuring heavy handed, mid-driven guitar rhythms accompanied by dreamy, languid vocals. A halftime head-banging chorus sounds like it should be blaring from any teenager’s turntable, Boombox, Walkman, or maybe streaming online—which it indeed is. This is a heroic love song buried somewhere inside of a crunchy, smooth ballad.
Check out “Steel Birds” on Spotify, where you can also dig back to their earlier project, Ep2. With the band’s newfound presence in Chicago, Slow Pulp is driving their flag into Chicago’s indie rock scene. We expect to hear new sounds from the group in the coming seasons, follow Slow Pulp for upcoming shows and releases.
