Wyatt Waddell • “Untrain My Heart”
Chicago’s own Wyatt Waddell recently landed in our submissions inbox and made an immediate impression with his latest single. “Untrain My Heart,” is a beautiful record in which the singer fails to reconcile his love towards someone who’s been stringing him along: “the more you run through my brain, the more I feel like it’s not wired right.”
Composed and produced by Waddell, the tender electric piano chords and sparse snaps envelop the multi-instrumentalist’s soulful voice. While the subject at hand is tinged with sadness, there’s a soaring vibrancy that peaks as Waddell is joined by label-mate R E D in the outro: “cut these chains away” they sing, pleading to break free from their yearning “I don’t want to stay.”
As his first release of 2019, “Untrain My Heart” is only the third official single on his Soundcloud page but it also serves as a preview off Waddell’s forthcoming project due via Rosebud Group.
