Mano Awarded Platinum Plaque for 'The Hills'

Treated Crew member Mano messed around and produced a 7x platinum record: "The Hills," his collaboration with The Weeknd, reached the milestone in January of this year, and this past Sunday Mano received his plaque at Lite nightclub from none other than Andrew Barber.

With platinum certifications now taking digital downloads and streams into account (according to the RIAA 1 permanent digital download = 1 unit sold and 150 on-demand audio/video streams = 1 unit sold), it's been increasingly difficult for songs, no matter how good, to even reach platinum once. So reaching it seven times is a pretty incredible feat. But it's been a pretty incredible year for Mano, who has received awards, broken records, and, as of Sunday, picked up a shiny platinum plaque to show for it. Chicago Police Fire Officers Involved in McDonald Murder

The Chicago Police Department announced Wednesday that they will move to fire Jason Van Dyke and four other officers involved in the murder of 17-year old Laquan McDonald in October 2014.

The decision is unprecedented, and follows the decision to charge Van Dyke with first-degree murder, the first officer to be charged in 35 years. Now, both he and those involved in the actions that led to that night are no longer on the force, an important step as the CPD continues its attempts to gain trust from the black community.

Of the 10 officers initially recommended to be fired for their involvement via Inspector General Joseph Ferguson three have retired and one resigned. According to the Chicago Tribune, "One officer, Dora Fontaine, disagreed with the suggestion, and that she may face disciplinary action by a police board, which sometimes handles matters between officers and city agencies." Van Dyke is still due for trial as he is being charged with first degree murder. - Aris Theotokatos

Chicago Rapper Shot While Filming Music Video

Chicago rapper King Yella was shot Tuesday during an apparent drive-by in Englewood while filming a Black Lives Matter video, allegedly as a part of a campaign to end the violence in Chicago.

He suffered gunshot wounds to his arm, as well as a graze on his left side. The police suspect that the shooting, which occurred at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday in the 6500 block of South Wentworth Avenue is gang-related. According to DNAInfo, a Twitter account associated with the Gangster Disciples has claimed responsibility for the shooting. - Aris Theotokatos
