Ali of New Kingz • "Power"

Much of my 2016 has been spent actively looking for who will step up as the next wave to continue holding the city down. While I'm not ready to put my eggs into any basket just yet, New Kingz have emerged in recent months as true contenders and returned yesterday with a new single from one half of the pairing as Ali dropped off his new one "Power" featuring a handful of locals.

This one in particular caught my ear immediately after hitting play for it's inescapable, multi-faceted nature that seems to touch on just about every sound that has found its way out of town lately. The backing production is absolutely crazy on this squad track and the bopping horn in the backdrop keep the whole thing moving forward while offering an easy path back to the aesthetics of the single at large. It feels like SURF went to the west side and before getting the studio with Vic. Definitely digging this one, and it appears New Kingz aren't stopping anytime soon, with plenty left in the chamber.
