Kaina, Sen Morimoto, drea the vibe dealer Come Together at Empty Bottle to Benefit RAICES Texas

One of Chicago’s favorite music venues - The Empty Bottle - and Rascal Mag have put together an incredible lineup of hometown talent to raise funds for the RAICES Bond Fund, which “directly assists with getting people out of the horrendous isolation of detention as quickly as possible, to ensure that they're able to reunite with their families and fight their cases from a place of freedom.” Chicago singer KAINA, who has had perhaps one of the best years possible (debut album Next to The Sun out now!) — will headline with support from longtime collaborator, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Sen Morimoto. The night will also feature a performance from singer-songwriter drea the vibe dealer — whom released a handful of singles earlier this year under the name ‘Priestess of Vibrations.’

Rascal Mag is an arts & culture publication for kids and teens that strives to provide pathways for problem-solving, exploration, and deeper thinking, while placing emphasis on philanthropy, inclusivity, and kindness.

We asked Rascal Mag Founder Leslie Deckard about what inspired the benefit. “I think there are a lot of people out there who wish they could be on the frontlines assisting with this unimaginable situation our administration has created for asylum seekers and immigrants Since we're not equipped to do so, it's really important that we support vetted organizations who are, and throwing a benefit show felt like a good way to bring lots of folks who care into the fold.” Deckard further spoke about the event’s headline. “I started with Kaina as the anchor because she's super talented, from Chicago, and she has been very open about coming from an immigrant family. It felt very important to the mission to choose artists who would align with the cause.”

Tickets for the upcoming show on Saturday, December 14th are on-sale now for $15.00 ($20 at the door). Buy your tickets here (show is 21+).

More about RAICES Bond Fund:

Bond is used for adults in detention, and in the case of family separation, parents are needed to be bonded out before reunification. Through RAICES Bond Fund efforts, more than 103 families have been reunified.

By posting bond, we're releasing individuals from the inhumane conditions of detention and preventing the direct harms that come with incarceration. In the immigration court, there is no right to counsel, and those who cannot pay bond are five times less likely to obtain representation, and those without representation are twice as likely to be ordered deported. People who are freed from detention have access to legal resources, are able to fight for their cases, and have the support of their community. 68% of detained immigrants released on bond ultimately prevailed in proceedings.
